While my LeakyCon 2013 review is forthcoming, I wanted to feature a few of my favorite events individually. Not Literally, Literally Live! was one of those favorite events. Even though they were at LeakyCon in 2012, I must have been busy at the time of their event, because I don’t remember them. I was working in the main stage (I am the main stage “coordinator” for LeakyCon) during their event this year, and at first, I wasn’t really listening. Their “Walk of Shame” video was funny, but I didn’t love it as much as I loved their three House Pride parodies. Yes, that’s right, I said three, not four. This is because they still haven’t made a video for my house, the totally awesome Ravenclaw House.
Be that as it may, if I didn’t know anything about Harry Potter and had to choose a house based on watching these three videos, I would be hard pressed to make a final decision. All three videos make each house seem really cool (except maybe the Slytherin video because there is house-elf-kicking involved). Seriously, though. While there might be some who disagree with the use of very American clothes versus the canon Hogwarts robes, I actually love them. Some might say that Americanizing Hogwarts makes it less magical, but I think it makes Hogwarts more real or more approachable for me. It certainly makes Hogwarts seem really “cool”, by American standards at least, particularly with the letterman jackets in the Gryffindor video.
While I identify with Hufflepuff more than Gryffindor (and with Slytherin least), I think the Gryffindor video is actually my favorite.
You can watch all three videos below. If you want to see their popular Doctor Who or Game of Thrones parodies, visit their channel.
What do you think about the American clothes in these videos? Do they stray too far from the Hogwarts robes of Harry Potter canon? Share your thoughts in the comments!
