Even though I need another dinosaur movie in my life, like, yesterday, I (or we) have to wait another three years to see another one, at least one from the Jurassic franchise. That’s right—Jurassic World 2 (which has no official title yet) will hit theaters on June 22nd, 2018. Sigh. That’s a long wait. But why announce so soon? Well, with Jurassic World breaking records worldwide, it makes complete sense that a sequel would be announced, even while Jurassic World (1) is still in theaters, continuing to chomp up even more money. This dinosaur movie celebrated the biggest opening weekend of all time when it was released on June 12th, and so far, has made $1.54 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. Considering all the number “1”s on the chart on that page, JW has certainly broken a number of records this past month. It’s currently the third highest grossing movie of all time, behind James Cameron’s two little films: Titanic (2nd) and Avatar (1st).
If you haven’t seen it, you’re definitely in the minority, but I can feel your pain. I myself wasn’t able to see it until the second weekend, because I was in Ontario for a wedding the weekend it was released and didn’t get to a theater. Unfortunately, I also didn’t have the time to write regularly over the past few months, which means that I missed posting trailers and clips that were released in that time, which I wish I could have taken the time to comment on before this movie came out.
Below is a playlist presented without comment. I’ll write down my thoughts about the whole movie very soon.
Here’s some good news to end this story: Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will star in the next Jurassic World movie! Then again, this only makes the three year wait that much harder, so never mind, this actually makes things worse.
