What’s With the Goblet of Fire Delay, Pottermore?

Apparently, Pottermore producers can only handle one thing at a time. In a recent post on the Pottermore Insider concerning account deletions, there were also a few FAQs, among which was this big question: when will the final installment of the Goblet of Fire be released? The answer: shortly after the Quidditch World Cup finals, which was the answer that I was expecting. At least, I thought these FAQs were included on the June 25th update, but they don’t seem to be there anymore. No matter. Other users around Pottermore are commenting that this answer is the correct one: the Quidditch World Cup finals come first, then the Goblet of Fire. One thing at a time.

I shouldn’t be as irritated about the delay as much as I am, but all the way back on April 4th, the Ravenclaws (my house) won the House Cup for the very first time on Pottermore. At that time, we were promised 24 hours early access to the final installment of the Goblet of Fire. I won’t lie; I might have rubbed this in the faces of a few friends from other houses, who retorted by saying that they had already had this privilege (the Slytherins twice), since the Ravenclaws were the very last house to win the House Cup (how very disappointing). Either way, I was excited. What I didn’t know at the time was that it would be 24 hours early access after a three month delay.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the addition of the Daily Prophet articles (written by J.K. Rowling herself!) to Pottermore, but I’ve shared more thoughts on that in another article.

Perhaps the Pottermore producers weren’t ready and wanted to buy more time. I understand that. Obviously, I want the final product to be perfect, not rushed. Besides that, Pottermore is now no longer partnered with Sony, and I suppose transitions of this nature (going from a partnership to an independent company) are sometimes difficult.

Additionally, as the Muggle world geared up for the FIFA world cup, it made sense to plan the Quidditch World Cup accordingly, to coincide with all-things-world-cup fever. Since the Quidditch World Cup occurs during the fourth book, perhaps Pottermore producers wanted to publish these QWC articles before they closed the final cover on Goblet of Fire. I guess I understand that too. In fact, I truly don’t blame them for the delay. As a Ravenclaw, I am able to apply logic to the situation and better understand where they are coming from.

But that doesn’t make me any less impatient!
