“Book of Potions” Added to Pottermore.com

When “Wonderbook: Book of Spells” was released last year for the PS3, a virtual “Book of Spells” by Miranda Goshawk was also added to the Restricted Section of the Hogwarts Library on Pottermore.com. Once this “Book of Spells” was found and “borrowed”, a “Book of Spells” badge was awarded to you, and a short video preview of the “Book of Spells” game was shown. Now with the release of “Wonderbook: Book of Potions” just two short days away (November 12th), the same book has been hidden within the Restricted Section on Pottermore.com again. Similarly, once collected, a badge is awarded and a short video preview is shown. Unfortunately, as far as I know, it’s not possible to re-watch the video later, so I have embedded the video below. But please, go find “Book of Potions” for yourself first!

Zygmunt Budge certainly sounds like a Slytherin, doesn’t he! Then again, we have yet to meet a Potions Master who wasn’t a Slytherin, as Severus Snape and Horace Slughorn were both Slytherins. It makes me wonder: were there ever any non-Slytherin Potions professors at Hogwarts? What about female Potions teachers?

Perhaps “Book of Potions” will answer those questions! As you may recall from “Book of Spells”, several stories, written by J.K. Rowling, were narrated during the game, and yet were never added to Pottermore.com. Lest you think that every tidbit of new content is given to us for free on Pottermore, think again: these games aren’t free.

Speaking of purchasing this game, I’ve searched Amazon, and it doesn’t appear there, which either means that it simply isn’t available for preorder, or that it isn’t going to be sold on Amazon. I’m hoping the former is true.

What do you think? Are you excited for another “Wonderbook” game by J.K. Rowling and Sony? Or is all this commercialism just too much? Share your thoughts in the comments.
