The second Desolation of Smaug trailer was released today. In it, we see and hear many things that we’ve already seen and heard from the previous trailer, in addition to, of course, many things that we’ve never seen or heard before.
In it, we see Thranduil warn Tauriel not to get too attached to his son, Legolas, which gives more dimensions to her character. She is merely a “bodyguard” and not royalty, which means that she is no match for Legolas.
In it, we see Thorin succumb to greed, a prevalent theme in the book, and we see the other characters react to this change. Bard yells in frustration that his greed will mean the destruction of everyone by the dragon. Balin has to remind Thorin that “the burglar” has a name: Bilbo.
There is one more thing in particular that we were given: the glorious sound of Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug. However, very few glimpses were given of the dragon itself.
A millisecond glimpse was given of Beorn, the half-man, half-bear that the company visits before they enter Mirkwood. As one of my favorite minor characters from the book, I’m getting more and more anxious to see him for longer than that, Peter Jackson.
But I suppose I’ll have to wait until December 13th. Please check out the trailer below and share your thoughts about it in the comments!
