Scholastic, the US publisher of the Harry Potter novels, unveiled the seventh and last cover artwork for the 15th anniversary editions at their NYC headquarters today, which commemorates Harry’s 33rd birthday and author J.K. Rowling’s 48th birthday. The new cover for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows portrays the trio—Harry, Ron, and Hermione—on the white dragon after their escape from Gringotts Bank. The new cover is shown below.
The first five covers are shown here. The sixth cover is shown here.
As a reminder, for fans of Mary GrandPre, the illustrator for the original editions, you needn’t worry: her artwork will remain on the hardcovers. However, this new artwork by illustrator Kazu Kibuishi will replace the paperbacks. The new covers are intended to cater to a new generation of Harry Potter readers. This “catering to a new generation” is shown quite clearly in a new trailer promoting the new paperback editions.
Additionally, when the books are set next to one another, their spines portray a beautiful rendition of Hogwarts, and the box holding the books displays Hogsmeade. Both images are below.
What a way to commemorate Harry’s and Jo’s birthdays! Wish them both a happy birthday in the comments below!
