John Green Visits The Colbert Report

John Green, author of The Fault In Our Stars, Paper Towns, and Looking for Alaska, visited The Colbert Report on Monday. Stephen Colbert is awesome. John Green is awesome. So, it goes without saying that the resulting interview between these two great minds was also awesome. My favorite part? When Stephen Colbert says this about YA novels:

How do you feel about that term young adult novel? Because, as far as I can tell, a young adult novel is a regular novel that people actually read.

You’re absolutely right, Stephen. This is why I keep telling people that the literature written for young adults is really the best literature and everyone should read it. YA novels are not easy reads. It’s easier to understand what’s going on, perhaps, than in The Canterbury Tales, for example. But, there are also so many layers to many young adult novels, that you can discuss metaphors and parallels with your local book club (which I have done) until you’re blue in the face.
