Daily Prophet on Pottermore: Quidditch World Cup News

As of April 11th (now almost three months ago—where has the time gone?), Pottermore users have access to a new shop in Diagon Alley. That “shop” is actually the Daily Prophet office, just down the south side street from Ollivanders. Before the Daily Prophet office’s opening, Ollivanders was the only accessible shop on the south side of Diagon Alley. The Daily Prophet office’s opening coincided with the Quidditch World Cup Opening Ceremonies (on April 12th), first few matches, as well as quarter-final matches and soon-to-be-reported semi-final matches.

The following is according to the June 20th article on the Pottermore Insider:

The semi-final matches of the 2014 Quidditch World Cup begin next week! Four of the sixteen qualifying teams have made it through the first round and quarter-finals, and after the shock eliminations of pre-tournament favourites Norway and Nigeria, the race to the final has been thrown wide open.

The first match of the semi-finals between USA and Brazil is on Friday 27 June, followed by Japan versus Bulgaria, scheduled for Sunday 29 June.

The match between USA and Brazil was supposed to have happened yesterday, but Ginny Potter, the Daily Prophet’s Quidditch correspondent in the Patagonian desert, has not yet published her recap of that match.

I have to wonder, though: once the Quidditch World Cup is over and done (which is soon), will J.K. Rowling continue to write new articles for the Daily Prophet for us to read, under other names? Rowling, obviously, wrote the (so far) 18 QWC-related articles under Ginny Potter’s fictitious name. Perhaps she’ll write a few articles as Rita Skeeter? Perhaps she’ll make up a new reporter’s name? Will she write news about other happenings in the Wizarding World? Will we have more wizarding news to look forward to, such as when two Muggles are accidentally transported by Portkey to a Celestina Warbeck concert in 2003? I would love to read articles such as these, as long as Rowling writes them!

Do you, like me, hope to see more from the Daily Prophet after the QWC? Share in the comments!
