Pottermore: “New Content” Round-Up

As more and more “new content” from J.K. Rowling makes its way onto Pottermore, the likelihood that Jo will publish a print encyclopedia (with the same content) diminishes. As disappointing as this sounds, let’s remember that we are receiving all of this new content for free, via Pottermore (though Jo would likely raise quite a sum for charity if she chose to print an encyclopedia anyway). However, Pottermore serves a greater purpose than merely a place to read new content from Jo (though for many of us, that’s almost all that matters), and because of this, it’s sometimes difficult to wade through Pottermore’s other features to get to the new content—the real reason why we’re there.

Pottermore’s latest update certainly makes it easier to locate the moments that feature new content from Jo—with the advent of the “new content” indicator icon (the red feather) on the upper right of the moment panes within the story navigator. However, the latest update does not pull all of the content into one central place as an encyclopedia might. The purpose of this article is to announce a new page on FictionRow that intends to do just that: provide links to every “new content” article within Pottermore, as indicated by the red feather. Think of it as the index to an encyclopedia.

The articles on that page are arranged by books, people, places, objects, and “others”. The title of the article is listed and linked to the article’s page on Pottermore, plus the moment that it appears within is listed and linked in parentheses next to it. The reason for listing and linking both the article and the moment is because it is unlikely that you’ll be able to read the article until you’ve “discovered” it within the moment first. In other words, this “index page” is really only useful once you’ve discovered all the “new content” articles for yourselves.

Actually, you probably won’t be able to click on any of these links unless you’ve signed up for Pottermore.

Currently, the index page only features articles from the first book. Sometime soon I will update the page again to include new content from the second and third books. I’ll continue to update this page with every new update to Pottermore that includes new content from J.K. Rowling. I will post another announcement with each update to the page.

Go check it out! Let me know what you think about the new page in the comments!
