15th Anniversary Cover Round-Up

In honor of the 15th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the United States, Scholastic is releasing new artwork for the paperback editions of the entire series. They are designed by award-winning illustrator Kazu Kibuishi and will be released in September 2013.

Each new cover has been revealed live at a separate event. In fact, the Prisoner of Azkaban cover was revealed live during LeakyCon’s opening ceremonies on Thursday, June 27th, which I was fortunate enough to attend.

New cover artwork for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows have not yet been revealed. I will report on the new artwork for the last two books when they are.

Personally, I love the new covers. While I won’t be buying a boxed set of the new paperback editions, you know, because I can’t afford to buy the books again at every 15th or 25th anniversary, I can appreciate looking at the digital versions of these beautiful covers online. Unfortunately, we live in a society that judges books by covers. Be that as it may, I do think new covers will tempt a younger generation to read these magnificent novels.

What do you think about the new covers? Sound off in the comments!
