Pottermore: Azkaban Coming Soon

In preparation for the imminent release of the first few chapters of Prisoner of Azkaban, the Pottermore Insider has been asking its readers to guess what they can see in the tea leaves (from Divination classes taught by Professor Trelawny). The latest picture (above) is much clearer than the first one, and in it, I see animals, each of which are important parts of the story (and are likely to be featured in moments on Pottermore to come).

One is a rat, Ron’s rat Scabbers, who we know to be Peter Pettigrew. Another is a dog, who we know to be Sirius Black. Another is a hippogriff, who we know to be Buckbeak. While I am very excited to see those creatures (and characters) in the moments to come, I am more excited for something else involving creatures, which I hope beyond hope that Pottermore does with their upcoming release of Prisoner of Azkaban: a patronus quiz.

In Sorcerer’s Stone, we had a quiz that helped the wand choose us. Moreover, we had a quiz that aided the sorting hat in its choice of Hogwarts house for us. What remains is the shape our patronus will take. We know that the shape the patronus takes is not random. Harry’s is a stag because James’s is a stag. Snape’s is a doe because Lily’s is a doe. There are reasons why patronuses take on a certain form. It has to do with personality, which I think should result in another personality quiz on Pottermore to aid in discovering that full corporeal patronus creature for ourselves.

However, patronus forms also have been known to change, as in the case of Tonks’s, which eventually became a werewolf due to her love for Lupin. Therefore, I do not think that discovering the form of a patronus should be permanent, as with choosing a wand or a Hogwarts house. Perhaps one shouldn’t be allowed to take the quiz again and again to simply choose for themselves the animal they want, but I think one should answer honestly, but then be given a chance to go back after a few months to a year and see if the animal changes or remains the same.

Certainly, there are many other things I am excited to see in Prisoner of Azkaban, which is one of my favorite books, if not my absolute favorite book, in the series, but this is just one thing that I am excited to see. Then again, perhaps Pottermore will choose to wait until Order of the Phoenix to have such a quiz, but I think, since Harry does discover in this book that his patronus is a stag, then we too should see what our patronus creatures should be.
